Durante las fechas de marzo 12-19, 2011 un grupo de voluntarios de Building a Future llevarán a cabo una serie de manualidades de papel y actividades educacionales que beneficiarán más de 100 niños, quienes viven en extremada pobreza, y atienden el centro de apoyo familiar construido por Building a Future. También queremos darles kits escolares y los materiales necesarios a estos niños en alto riesgo para que continúen atendiendo la escuela y también continúen atendiendo el centro de apoyo familiar para recibir reesfuerzo escolar a diario.

Cajita de Papel
Descripción/Enfasis
Teach children how to repurpose materials to create a functional storage box. Hand-made paper boxes could be used for storage at school or home.

  • 60 - 100 Sheets Heavy Weight Paper or Construction Paper (Assorted Colors, Letter Size, 28lb - 67lb)
  • 40 - 100 Sheets Scrapbook Paper or Construction Paper (Assorted Colors, 12" x 12", 28lb - 67lb)
  • 24 Scissors for Children (Blunt Tip)
  • 24 Pencils (No. 2)
  • 24 Pencil Sharpeners (with shavings container)
  • Markers (Washable, Fine Tip, 2 sets of 50)
  • Crayons (3 sets of 64)

Stitched Folders
Description/Emphasis
Teach children how to make their own school materials. Cardboard paper folders will be cut in different sizes depending on child's need and include a hand-stitched pocket.

  • 24 Rulers (12-inch, wood or plastic)
  • 12 Hole Punches (1/4" circle)
  • Craft Cord or Ribbon (Assorted Colors, 1/4" or 6mm wide, at least 50 yds)
  • 24 Scissors for Children (Blunt Tip)
  • 24 Pencils
  • 24 Pencil Sharpeners (with shavings container)
  • Markers (Washable, Fine Tip, 2 sets of 50)
  • Crayons (3 sets of 64)
  • 200 Paper Clips or Binder Clips
Origami Star
Description/Emphasis
Teach children about origami and how to make an expandable star.
Age Group 7+

  • 1,000 Sheets Origami Paper (Assorted Colors, 8" x 8" or larger)
Paper Plate Tambourines
Description/Emphasis
Teach children how to create a hand-made musical instrument for play and sing-alongs. Music will be part of this activity.

Hand Stamp Painting
Description/Emphasis
Teach children how to use paint to make an imprint with their own hands.

Reading and Coloring Books
Books (coloring books and reading books) are an important part of the educational reinforcement children receive at our family support center.

  • 50 Reading Books (Spanish, or English-Spanish)
  • 250 Colored Pencils
  • 100 Mini or Pocket-Size Dictionaries (Spanish, or English-Spanish)
Games
Team building activities encourage children at the family support center to share, participate, and have fun together.

  • 24 Puzzles (For all ages, starting from 24 pieces to 500 pieces)
  • 4 Twister Games
  • 4 Connect Four Games
  • 4 Jenga Games (also known as Jumbled Towers)
  • 6 Uno Card Sets
  • 10 Memory Games Sets
  • Flash Cards (for all ages; Math, Shapes or Spanish-English flash cards only please)
Teacher's Tools
The appointed teacher at the center Lidia Rovira and BAF volunteers need some basic tools to carry out the craft projects and activities.

  • 500 Labels (Permanent Adhesive, no larger than 1" x 2 3/4") | Sample Product: Avery® White All-Purpose Labels 6113
  • 2 Masking Tapes (1" wide)
  • 2 Clear Tapes (1/2" wide)
  • 10 - 12 Sharpie Markers (Assorted Colors or Black, Fine Point)
  • 500 Name Tags (for children and volunteers)
  • 6 Scissors (Standard Size)
  • 5 Glue Bottles (Washable, 4oz. or 7.63 oz.)
  • 4 - 6 Dry Erase Markers (Assorted Colors)
  • 100 - 250 Sheets White Paper (Letter Size, 20lb - 24lb)

School Kits
We want to champion children's participation in our weeklong activities and encourage them to continue in school by providing them with 100 school kits. Each school kit contains:
  • 1 Backpack
  • 1 Lunch Box (with thermos or water bottle)

  • 1 Eraser
  • 1 Sharpener
  • 1 Double Sleeve Folder
