 As a component of the trip we would like to host a day of activities (including a soccer game) on March 18th, and would like to donate 100 tennis shoes and soccer balls to orphans and vulnerable children from some of the poorest communities in Tegucigalpa. We want you to be a part of an initiative that will bring smiles to children’s faces and provide positive opportunities for growth and interactivity. Why soccer?Soccer is the national pastime in Honduras and all children love it. However, not all have a chance to play with tennis shoes and an authentic soccer ball. Some have to improvise and play with taped up shoes and socks, plastic balls, or just plain old tied up rags!Here is a video showing children playing soccer (most of them shoeless) in the dirt streets in Honduras: What’s the purpose?Gangs, drugs, and crime threaten many of the children living in the poorest neighborhoods in Honduras.
