On March 20, 2009, The "Hondudiario" newspaper in Tegucigalpa, Honduras published an article about the Junior Master Gardener Program which was implemented in one of the largest marginalized communities in the city. Building a Future, in partnership with the Norman Borlaug Institute, coordinated and led this initiative benefiting the Texaco Family Support Center and public schools in close proximity. view article » |

Channel 10 "Esta Pasando" Program: Honduras |

On March 19, 2009 Jose Mahomar, Robert Furr (BAF Directors) and Jorge Mahomar (President of Centro de Desarrollo Juvenil y Familia), were interviewed by Channel 10’s “Esta Pasando” program in Honduras. The 30-minute interview featured questions and answers about Building a Future, its current and future projects, and the AMC student Spring Break trip underway that same week and spearheaded by BAF and Jorge Mahomar. 5K Race Benefits Building a Future |
On February 27, 2009, the Aggie Men’s Club (AMC) and Maggies, two student organizations at Texas A&M University, organized the GLOW 5K 2009 race. Every year, AMC organizes this nighttime run on the Texas A&M campus to benefit children and families in Honduras. AMC, in partnership with Building a Future and Jorge Mahomar, plans to reconstruct three houses for impoverished families in Honduras with the funds received from the 5K race. As part of the annual AMC trip to Honduras during spring break, AMC students will have the opportunity to be part of the construction of the houses. |

Chevron Donates Computers to the Texaco Family Support Center |
Chevron Corporation donated several computers and computer desks for the Family Support Center in the Unidad y Fuerza community in Honduras. Educational software has also been installed in the computers to aid children in learning and contributes to the after-school educational reinforcement they receive at the center.
The Texaco Family Support Center hosts about 40 to 80 children daily. Lidia Rovira, a certified teacher from Spain, coordinates the daily educational activities at the center. Building a Future wants to express its gratitude for the continued and extended support from the Chevron counterparts in the U.S. and Honduras. |

Jose Mahomar and Jordan Baucum, BAF Directors, last visited the Texaco Family Support Center on November 17, 2007. They handed out stuffed animals and provided lunch for the children. |
